Trade Deadline coming

After google blocked my account for a few weeks I was unable to post anything in here but Sabreshockeyville is back with a look at the upcoming trade-deadline.

Right now it seems as if the following guys are on the table.

Derek Roy
Drew Stafford
Paul Gaustad
Brad Boyes
Jordan Leopold
Andrej Sekera

Here are my thoughts on those players and if the Sabres should trade them or not.

Derek Roy:
GP:59 G:13 A:21 PTS:34 +/-: -6

Many people thought Derek Roy would be on his way out for sure and that every game in a Sabres sweater could be his last one. He had a bad stretch during the season where he didn't produce anything but penalties. Still I would NOT trade Derek Roy. Since coming into the league in the 2003-2004 season, Roy has pretty impressive stats, that prove that he is indeed a great Center.

GP:528 G:157 A:260 PTS:417 +/-: +40

If Roy gets back to the Roy he has been last season, and lately he proved that he can be that guy again, the Sabres have a number 1 center.

Drew Stafford:
GP:59 G:10 A:19 PTS:29 +/-: -4

Stafford scored 31 goals last year and many were asking if that was a contract-year or not. As of now you have to admit it looks like it was one. Stafford is nowhere near his play from last year. To be honest probably no one on the roster has been like last year, but it doesnt even look as if Stafford can get back to the goal-machine he was. At least not with the Buffalo Sabres. That's why I would trade him.

Paul Gaustad:
GP:55 G:7 A:10 PTS:17 +/-: +1

I criticised Paul a lot in the past. But let's be honest he had an aweful stretch and played some terrible games. I am very glad that lately he became the hard working grinder again that get's into the opponent's face every night. He is great when it comes to faceoffs and teams will look for a tough grinding center that can play big minutes and in key situations like the PK. Paul will be an UFA after this season that's why I say: Trade him and sign him again in the off-season.

Brad Boyes:
GP:47 G:3 A:10 PTS:13 +/-: -5

Let's make that a quick one: Trade Him. 3!! Goals in 47 games. This guy used to score +25 goals 3 times in his NHL career but this time has passed. The only time you notice him out there is, if the games go to a shootout where he usually scores. That's not enough to make me say: "Keep him". Question is if anyone will offer anything for Boyes at all.

Jordan Leopold:
GP:58 G:8 A:10 PTS:18 +/-: 0

Andrej Sekera:
GP:53 G:3 A:8 PTS:11 +/-: +1

Leopold was one of the more reliable Defender on the team and I felt comfortable having him on Defence. He will be a very valuable asset on Monday. He has played 60 playoff games in his career and could be a target for many contenders. I say trade him as McNabb will make the team next year for sure and one D-Men will have to go until next year. So trade Leopold now and get a decent return for him.

Andrej Sekera had another up and down season. This kid has so much potential but I am afraid that we will turn that sentence into, "That kid had so much potential" in a couple of years. It was another season with great stretches and terrible stretches, where you were afraid when he had the puck. It's been like that for 2-3 years now and I think it's time to realise that he might not turn into the player we all were hoping for. If the Sabres keep him I could live with that and will continue to hope that he will become that awesome Defender. If they trade him I could live with it, if the return makes me get over that move.
